She is encouraging local business to register at www.CompeteFor.com, which publicises Olympic-related business contract opportunities. So far around 50% of contracts have been awarded to businesses outside of London.

Theresa is also supporting local sporting venues. Four local venues have been included in the official London 2012 Pre-Games Training Camp Guide, meaning that they might be selected to host a training camp. If any visiting team uses them they will receive £25,000.

Potential training camp sites

Theresa said, “Many of us are already looking forward to the vital role that the local area will play during the 2012 Olympics as the host venue for the rowing competitions. However, there are many other ways in which we can benefit from London hosting the Games. It is fantastic that four of our local sports venues have been approved as potential training camp sites and I will be working with them to see what we can do to make this happen by attracting teams to the area.”

“The Olympics also represent a great opportunity for local businesses. I urge any local business that thinks it might be able to benefit from the Games to register their interest. I know that some have already done so. There is no reason why it should be only London businesses benefiting from the Games.”
