Description
Over the next four weeks, anyone who becomes a victim of vehicle crime in Berkshire East will be encouraged to bring their vehicle along to one of several forensic examination surgeries.
The surgeries form part of a bid to enhance the quality of service provided to victims of vehicle crime.
Until Friday 12 December, victims will be given the opportunity to take their vehicle to either Slough or Maidenhead police station, where Scenes of Crime staff will carry out a forensic examination.
The surgeries will take place on week days (Monday – Friday) between the following times:
• 8am to 9am
• 2pm to 3pm
• 4pm to 6.30pm
Acting Det Ch Insp Jim Reeves, Crime Manager for Berkshire East, said: “We always try to carry out these examinations at times and places that suit the victim, often visiting their homes or work places, but unfortunately this is not always possible. So by providing these surgeries at various times throughout the day, and with time slots before and after the normal working day, we’re hoping to provide people with more choice about when they get their vehicles seen.”
The surgeries also form part of Operation Cayan, an initiative to increase forensic examinations, identify more offenders and solve more crimes.
All incidents of vehicle crime should be reported to police via the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505, at which point victims will be advised about whether their vehicle is suitable for a forensic examination.
Upon attending a surgery, members of the public should report to the front counter, where they will be dealt with by a member of the Scenes of Crime team.
